Ball valve is a type of valve that uses a hollow, perforated and pivoting ball to control the flow of liquids or gases through it. The ball valve has a spherical body with a hole in its center. The ball inside the valve is positioned by a stem that extends from the bottom of the valve to a handle on top of the valve. When the valve is in the closed position, the ball is rotated so that the hole is perpendicular to the flow path, preventing the fluid from passing through. When the valve is in the open position, the ball is rotated 90 degrees so that the hole is aligned with the flow path, allowing the fluid to pass through.

Ball valves are commonly used in applications where high flow rates and low pressure drops are desired. They are also ideal for applications that require tight shut-off capabilities, such as in the water supply industry. Ball valves are often used in chemical processing, oil and gas production, and in HVAC systems.

In the plumbing industry, ball valves are commonly available in sizes ranging from 1/4 inch to 2 inches in diameter. These sizes are suitable for use in residential and commercial plumbing applications, including shut-off valves for sinks, toilets, and other fixtures. Larger sizes of ball valves, up to 12 inches in diameter, are also available for use in industrial applications. Overall, ball valves are a versatile and reliable option for controlling fluid flow in a wide range of applications.
